Dolphin Watching Cruises
The Gulf waters around Indian Rocks Beach are home to a large resident population of bottlenose dolphins, and a cruise is one of the easiest ways to see them up close. Several operators run daily departures from John's Pass Village and Clearwater Beach, with trips ranging from a quick 90-minute spin to a two-hour sunset cruise.
The dolphins here are used to boats and often ride the bow wake, which makes for great viewing even with kids on board. Morning trips tend to have calmer water and better light. Sunset cruises are popular for a reason: the Gulf puts on a show most evenings, and the dolphins are usually active at dusk.
Most boats are open-air catamarans or pontoon vessels with plenty of deck space. Some operators are BYOB; others have a small bar on board. It's worth checking when you book.
